The Virginia Chapter of the American College of Radiology (VCACR) is a statewide professional organization dedicated to improving the health of patients and society by making imaging safe, effective and accessible to those who need it. Our members are composed of diagnostic radiologists, interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists and nuclear medicine physicians practicing in the state of Virginia.
The Virginia Chapter, ACR strives to improve radiological service to patients and the medical community, positively influence the socio-economics of the practice of radiology, and maintain high medical and ethical standards in the practice of radiology.
Chapter membership is available to physicians who have been certified in a radiological discipline by the American Board of Radiology, the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology, the Royal College of Physicians or the College des medecins du Quebec, or are engaged in nuclear medicine and have been certified by a specialty board which is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties or its Canadian equivalent. Membership in the Virginia Chapter, ACR offers a great way to communicate with other radiologists across the state in order to advance our common goal of improving the quality of radiological care.
Our Chapter holds an annual meeting in the late summer. The 2010 annual meeting will be held at the Wintergreen Resort on August 7. As always, the meeting program will offer exciting speakers and informative presentations. But of equal importance, it will provide an opportunity for radiologists from around the state to exchange information, form friendships, and solidify our presence in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We hope you will join us!
Each year, the Chapter’s Legislative Committee hosts an annual Lobby Day at the General Assembly where we visit with delegates and senators who will consider critical health care legislation. For the past several years, we’ve worked diligently to help members of the legislature understand that a quality standards component is essential to any responsible deregulation of COPN and to educate them regarding inappropriate utilization of imaging services.
In addition to an active Legislative Committee, we formed a Virginia Radiology Political Action Committee (PAC) several years ago. The creation of this PAC has enabled us to make financial contributions to key legislators, which increases our visibility as a political force and helps to build relationships with legislators so that we can advocate for issues important to radiologists.
Your active participation is needed! If you are not currently a member, I hope that you will give serious consideration to joining the Virginia Chapter. Click on Join Now under the Membership bar to learn more about joining.
