RADIOLOGY DAY AT THE CAPITOL

The Virginia Chapter of the American College of Radiology once again held a successful Lobby Day!  The leadership of the Chapter believes that it is essential for radiologists to participate in legislative discussions related to the practice of medicine and health care delivery in Virginia. Thanks to the individuals who participated this year and helped legislators and their aides "put a face" on our organization and impressing upon them our commitment to being involved in providing  responsible health care delivery.

The Chapter has been an active participant in  legislative Sessions.   Chapter members have spoken with legislators to educate them on the inappropriate utilization of imaging services.  We have successfully opposed efforts to abolish COPN without measures to ensure quality of imaging, continue to provide charity care for the indigent and maintain the viability of our academic medical centers.We have also supported the MSV agenda on Medicaid reimbursements, scope of practice issues, and professional liability issues. For the past several years we supported the successful efforts of the MSV to protect the Medical Malpractice Cap against any unfavorable intrusions by the trial lawyers' lobby.  In 2009 the chapter introduced SB 968 and HB 1939 to authorize the licensure and regulation of Radiologists Assistants in Virginia.  Both bills were passed unopposed.
